About Homeworld Collective

Homeworld Collective is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to nurturing the growth of biotechnology to solve planetary-scale challenges. Our mission focuses on accelerating biotech's deployment into critical sectors by creating community, surfacing problems and providing grants for de-risking big ideas.
Through research, collaboration, and building infrastructure (such as this prototype tool here), we work to bridge the gap between emerging biotechnologies and the urgent needs for a thriving, safe world.
MSHA Mining Data Overview
This dashboard displays mining data extracted from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) database, covering 91,307+ US mining operations. The data includes active mines, employment figures, and production estimates for critical minerals based on SIC codes and keyword matching, and filtered for the 63 critical minerals of interest here. The percentage shown for each mineral represents how much of the estimated 2030 domestic demand would be covered by estimated 2030 domestic supply. Note: MSHA data refers just to mines and mills, and does not include information about smelters or refineries.

Critical Minerals Summary Table
This table shows data for all 63 critical minerals from the USGS 2025 list, including production, demand/supply projections, and GDP impact. For a one-table view of all metals, technologies and bottlenecks, view this public Google Spreadsheet .
Note: Production and Supply numbers are all estimates. For official USGS numbers, consult the January 2025 Periodicals available at https://pubs.usgs.gov/periodicals/mcs2025/
Important: In some situations, like bauxite in Australia, a friendly country may produce all of what we would need, but that is subject to many assumptions about trade relationships, shipping routes, and geopolitical stability. Refer to the Detailed Reports section that breaks down major sources and supply chain vulnerabilities for each mineral.
